Carter will need running shoes during two-day visit
Cris Carter is considered to have the “best hands” in the history of the NFL.
He better have fast feet, too.
When Carter, a Middletown High School graduate who will inducted into the Professional Football Hall of Fame this summer, visits his hometown next month, organizers will have him running.
“It’ll be an endurance test,” said Mark Kerns, a Middletown High School teacher and founder of the Pigskin Roundball Spectacular, where Carter will be honored on May 7.MacRumors reader Michael Rou has managed to get his hands on both a pre-production iPhone 5 case and a pre-production ipad leather case and posted comparison photos on Flickr.
During his two-day stay in Middletown, Carter will participate in on-field pregame ceremonies on May 6 when the Cincinnati Reds host the Atlanta Braves at Great American Ball Park on “Middletown Night.” He also is expected to be interviewed during the game on radio and TV, Kerns said.
Middletown native Kayla Harrison, who won a gold medal in judo at the 2012 Olympics in London, will join Carter for pre-game festivities, Kerns said.
Kerns said the night will create “good exposure for everyone.”
Then on May 7, Carter will be at Middletown High School, where he graduated in 1984, to receive a 45-pound bronze bust from hall of fame representatives from Canton during “a gigantic pep rally” in the gym. Carter then will donate the bust to the school where it will be on permanent display, Kerns said. The event is open to students and invited guests only, Kerns said.
Kerns is hoping Bill Conley, Carter’s high school coach, and Earle Bruce, his coach at Ohio State University, can attend the festivities.
Then Carter will hold a press conference in the gym before stops at Middletown Middle School and Rosa Parks Elementary. He is expected to address the middle school students either in Wade E. From there, Carter will drive to Mason where he will be one of the keynote speakers at the Pigskin Roundball Spectacular, an event that generates money for college scholarships. The other keynote speaker is Jerry Lucas, a Middletown graduate and member of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Harrison also will be inducted into the Gold Medal Club at the event.
The Spectacular is sold out and is expected to draw about 800 people, Kerns said.
Kerns said he expects the two days to be “very, very emotional” for Carter because there are ceremonies planned that will “hit him right in the heart.”
